Aldo Chavez, B.A. and M.A.

About

Aldo, father of two girls, has over 20 years of experience working in the field of education, management, and athletic administration. His track record as a leader includes as a former program director, regional coordinator, athletic director, site supervisor, after school director, teacher, and basketball coach.

Aldo attended Allan Hancock Community College and obtained an associate's art degree in Liberal Arts and Spanish. Aldo was blessed for over five years, learning the various skills of a teacher assistant, tutor, recruiter, assistant coordinator, and lead instructor. While attending community college, he also pursued his childhood dream of becoming a youth basketball coach. Aldo's basketball coaching career began at the young age of 18, as a volunteer coach for the Santa Maria Boys and Girls Club, coaching youth from 3rd to 8th grade. The following year he received his first opportunity to be the official head middle school boys coach and physical education instructor at St. Louis De Montfort Catholic School.

Background

Aldo transferred to San Diego State University (SDSU). He received a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology with an emphasis in education. After graduating, He obtained his master’s degree from Ohio University in Athletic Administration. Aldo spent six years as a long-term substitute teacher for Kinder to 12th grade. He later accepted a position designing and implementing academic tutoring, enrichment classes, athletics, and middle school electives. After three successful years serving over 200 students and mentoring over 50 staff. Aldo decided to continue his leadership in administration by moving into the non-profit sector. For eight years, he worked for the YMCA of San Diego County as a regional coordinator. Aldo oversaw their physical education and athletic leagues department that served over 80 schools, 7,000 students (ranging from Kinder to 8th grade) as well as employed and mentored over 100 staff. While living in San Diego for the last 17 years, Aldo was blessed to continue his basketball coaching career at the local middle schools. Aldo led his girl's team to winning two city championships (Memorial Academy) and winning 2 CIF girls championships at two different high schools (San Diego High, Mira Mesa High)

Monique Berumen, B.A. and M.A.

About

Monique Berumen is a former student from San Diego State University (SDSU). She graduated with a B.A in the Interdisciplinary Studies program focusing on Sociology and Chicanx studies minoring in Counseling and School Psychology. She was recently accepted into the University of San Diego, in which Monique graduated and received her M.A. in Educational Leadership. Her passion is to teach and further expand the educator's knowledge by exposing them to the tools to succeed.

Background

During her studies at SDSU, she had various jobs in after school programs serving over 300 students. Monique implemented academic curriculum, sports units, and team building activities. In one of her positions at a K-8th charter school, she received the opportunity to create a theater program from scratch and implement it with grades 3rd-8th. Monique designed lesson plans, directed various plays, and produced several performances. After seeing the impact made with the students, parents, and staff, she became motivated to teach others. She organized workshops and presentations at middle schools and high schools. Monique stressed the importance of how they can be effective leaders and how they can achieve their five-year goals. She was then invited to present at high school conferences and parent conferences, serving over 600 students and 150 parents. The workshops focused on professional development, team building, parents' rights, and educating parents on the university's expectations for their children.

Monique's passion for leading, mentor, and structure programs led her to participate in the YMCA Physical Learning through Activity for the Youth program as Coordinator I. This program is driven to inspire young minds and motivate them in physical fitness, health education, and character development.  In this position, she served over 14 schools and trained over 50 staff. She enhanced the physical education curriculum from basic fitness games to modern lessons focusing on sports, multi-cultural fitness, and nutrition units based on the California Physical Education Standards.

With her past experiences working with youth in schools, after school, and child development program settings, Monique looks forward to guiding others and sharing my experiences as a consultant for AthLead Advantage.
